HIM-IS: Human Impact Management for Information Security

HIMIS is a "Creative Commons" licensed methodology for managing the human impact on information security. HIM-IS segregates information security "awareness" and "behavior" as two distinct but inter-related components. HIM-IS considers "information security awareness" as "understanding of information security" and "information security behavior" as the "application of good information security practices". In essence, HIM-IS goes beyond "information security awareness" and by providing a framework for migrating "awareness" to "behavior". Organizations can use HIM-IS for,
  1. Linking business goals to expectations from the workforce in terms of information security awareness and behavior
  2. Assessing the current levels of information security awareness and behavior
  3. Creating an "Expected security practices list (ESPL)" (list of desirable information security awareness and behavior)
  4. Implementing the "ESPL"
  5. Measuring the improvements "before" and "after" the implementation of ESPL
  6. Creating a continuous improvement model

HIM-IS approved under "DNV verified superior information security practices"

DNV (Det Norske Veritas), one of the leading risk based certification service providers has formally approved HIM-IS under the "DNV verified superior information security practices". DNV has developed a "conformance assessment model" through which organizations can get their HIM-IS implementations assessed for conformance to the HIM-IS methodology. Organizations successfully clearing the HIM-IS assessment shall be awarded the "HIM-IS Conformance Certificate" by DNV.

The independent 3rd party conformance assessment process by DNV adds value to HIM-IS.  Further, the independent assessment model gives value and confidence to customers regarding the credibility of the HIM-IS implementation.
